About Callum Marshall
Callum is a seasoned gaming managing editor for a number of publications and a gamer who will always try to shine a spotlight on indie games before giving AAA titles the time of day.
He loves nothing more than finding an unearthed early-access title and seeing what they have to offer. Plus, he’s even got a tattoo of The Traveller from Journey and a Junimo, so you know that love for indies is legit!
Callum has been around the block within the gaming industry, working as an Editor-in-chief for a number of well-respected gaming outlets; he has worked as a games tester, he has gaming podcast experience, and he has worked in gaming PR. Basically, you name it, and Callum was probably there or somewhere on the periphery.
Outside of gaming, Callum loves skateboarding despite his immediate family telling him to grow up, and he is also known to watch the British sitcom Peep Show on repeat and will go toe-to-toe with anyone on Peep Show trivia.
Favorite Games
It's like choosing your favorite children, honestly. But when pushed, Callum simply needs to look at the ink on his body to see what games resonate with him the most.
These games include Pokemon, Journey, Stardew Valley, Kingdom Hearts, and Sea of Stars.
However, he's also a huge fan of Disco Elysium, Bioshock, Fallout, Hollow Knight, and so many others.
Industry Focus
Callum's Industry focus has always been shining the spotlight on the little guys in gaming, and he has made it his life's work to cover indie games as much as possible. While Callum has been Managing Editor, Editor-in-Chief and Owner of several publications, his favorite of all is Indie Game Culture, a brilliant little site that covers indie games and nothing else. So, if you get a chance, pop over there for a while!
Callum has also worked as a games tester for various indie games, ran his own indie gaming podcast, and has reviewed hundreds of indie titles. So, in short, he's a little obsessed.
Proudest Gaming Achievement
It's a tough question, but one he tends to answer by stating that he platinumed Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix. A feat that he knows is a rather attainable one for most KH fans, but this achievement is special due to the sentimental value it holds, as a young Callum struggled to even take on Demyx in the base game.
So, having the ability to come back to this one and beat everything it had to offer was a really special moment.
Other cool accolades include getting 50x Platinums in the space of one year, and beating Journey of the Prairie King while using a PS Vita.
