When it comes to the main story quest in Final Fantasy XIV, there really isn’t much to it. Sometimes you are required to look over different types of items in the environment, but for the most part, it’s almost entirely guided. Square Enix hand holds the player through almost every story-related content, with the main focus being the storytelling over the mechanics.

The Story So Far...

FFXIV Dawntrail Wuk Lamat Sphene Cutscene

Up until this point, Oblivion is sneaking into the tenth floor of the Government Sector building, something that has seemingly been abandoned for quite some time. The Preservation Their Purpose has the player finding a keycard to gain access to the Director’s Office, but instead this only leads you to deuterolab.

The duetrolab is where this puzzle is located, as we are tasked with connecting the circuit board to the servers, restoring power to the room next door.

How to Solve the Shape Puzzle?

There are a couple of clues that you can find around the environment that will help you with the puzzle.

  • Sphene: She will mention that “only one of each circuitry pattern can be set at the same time.”
  • Wuk Lamat: She will give you a diagram, but it’s worn out.

Wuk Lamat’s little piece of paper is pretty helpful, but it only shows two of the patterns, but it allows you to figure out which shape goes into the last slot. The Square is the final piece of the puzzle, with Sphene’s clue leaving the other three shapes to be solved.

The diagram also shows that the circle is also connected directly to the square tile. This means that it either has to be to the northwest or southeast. Looking at the links on the circle, it’s going south and east, meaning it cannot connect southeast, thus it needs to be northwest.

The other two shapes are just testing them out. The diamond links west, north and east, thus it needs to connect to the southwest, while the triangle is west and north. And thus, you have the pattern you’re looking for.
