Whether it’s grinding FATEs for the rarest mounts or spending tens, if not hundreds, of hours in an Ultimate raid to get the clear, there’s no shortage of things to do in Final Fantasy XIV. There’s something for everyone, and for those who like to kick back and gamble, there’s a bit of treasure hunting. This is an activity that has been around since A Realm Reborn, going around the world with a mysterious map in hand, looking for buried treasure.
What is Vault Oneiron?

Vault Oneiron is a lot different from your typical treasure dungeon. While most of them involve going through different doorways or spinning a giant roulette wheel, Vault Oeiron is closer to a slot machine than anything else.
Upon entering a Vault Oneiron portal, you will come across a cube that needs to be interacted with to progress. Once you touch it, it will begin a slot machine mini-game that the three little automatons will display on their screens.
Depending on what you land on, the results will vary. If you get a variety of icons, you will get a Lesser Fancy, but if you get three of the same, it will end up being a Greater Fancy.

The RNG
One RNG aspect of the mini-game is that, if you don’t land on your desired result, sometimes the slot machine will give it to you. Similar to the rainbow effect in past mini-games, this happens here as well. So, say you get two small gems and a crack gem. On occasion, the machine will give a special effect and rotate the cracked gem one slot over to a small gem to fulfill the requirements of a Greater Fancy. Other times it will simply just reroll the entire thing.
Speaking of which, when rolling, you can start by seeing a rainbow. This is similar to the room-based Treasure Hunts where a rainbow will sometimes appear on the ground, showing which door is the correct door to progress further. This will always reward you with a Greater Fancy or higher.
Throughout each turn, there’s also a high chance there will be enemies that will appear on the field that will drop loot. This ranges from Mandragora to gold robots. By killing them in order or simply taking them down, you will obtain additional rewards.
Escaping Expulsion

In rare cases, if you hit 3x Cracked Gems in a pull, instead of expelling you, the screen will fill with lightning, similar to Ramuh’s effect from past treasure hunts, and reroll the slot machines into something better, saving you from a Duty Failed.
In most cases, this feels like it’s reserved for rolling an expulsion early on in the instance’s life, but this can happen at any time. All you need to do is hope and pray that this thunder lord (or computer malfunction) will save you.
Potential Rewards

Like any treasure dungeon, there are various rewards you can come across through your adventures. Even to this day, some of the rewards in the earlier expansions are quite rare because fewer people run them, but the newer ones retain their value because of the RNG aspect. For Vault Oneiron, there’s a slew of loot you can find, from mounts to Fashion Accessories. You will also always get Tomestones of Mathematics (the current Tomestones) along with EXP, Gil, matera and various generic crafting materials.
